AI & BSL National
Dialogue Project

RNID & Sciencewise are running a landmark public dialogue on AI-enabled British Sign Language. We're building a team of interpreters to support it.

Funded & supported by
UK Research & Innovation
RNID

The project

A UK-wide public dialogue exploring how AI-enabled BSL technology should be developed and used. The Deaf BSL community will be at the centre of these conversations.

Your role

BSL interpretation at workshops, governance meetings, and dialogue sessions.

  • In-person: London, Scotland, Cardiff/Bristol
  • Online: governance meetings (~90 min/month)
  • Briefing & prep sessions included
  • May to December 2026

AI expertise needed?

No. You'll be briefed before each session, and an AI signs Glossary is being developed by the Scottish Sensory Centre. We need interpreters comfortable with technical content and willing to learn - not AI experts.

This is not a formal application. We're gauging interest and readiness across our interpreter network to inform our bid. It doesn't commit you to anything - it helps us understand who might be a good fit.

How did you approach it?

These terms are likely to come up in sessions. If a speaker used them, would you know what they mean well enough to interpret accurately? No wrong answers - this helps us plan briefings.
